Injury Management
Workplace injuries can significantly affect businesses directly, through claims costs and insurance premiums, and indirectly, in terms of a loss of productivity.
Marsh’s workplace injury management assessment is a three-part consultative review designed to assist organisations in gaining a greater understanding of the injury management systems, processes, and culture within their companies and review how these practices are currently used in the rehabilitation of injured employees.
Following the completion of the assessment, companies are provided with a detailed report outlining the strengths and weaknesses in their approach to managing workplace injuries. The report outlines key recommendations that can help the company achieve its employee health and welfare objectives. Marsh will present this report in a workshop with key stakeholders with a view to developing an action plan that can be implemented immediately.

Marsh’s audit team is experienced in auditing WHS management systems against a number of criteria, including internal policies and procedures, legal requirements, Australian Standard AS/NZS 4801, International Standard OHSAS 18001 and the National WHS Self Insurance Audit Tool (NAT).
Marsh is also an accredited Comcare self-insurance audit provider and is engaged annually by Comcare to undertake audits of Comcare self-insurers against the requirements of the NAT.
Behavioural Risk Improvement Program
Traditional approaches to safety that include engineering and process solutions are critical for every organisation. Although such approaches can produce substantial safety improvements, organisations can often reach improvement plateaus or encounter cyclical performance. Breaking these patterns and achieving continuous improvement is difficult — it requires a change in focus.
Marsh’s behaviour-based safety process, Behavioural Risk Improvement (BRI), is based on innovative, cost-effective methods to reduce the frequency and severity of occupational incidents.
BRI creates sustainable systems where desirable (safe) behaviours are continuously identified and reinforced through observation and performance feedback. The BRI process can provide your organisation with the tools to develop a strong, positive safety culture and make lasting improvements in safety performance.
BRI complements traditional safety approaches by focusing on safe behaviours and positive results. It is a proven, sustainable approach that identifies at-risk and safe behaviours, analyses factors that support risk-taking, introduces changes that support safe behaviours, provides a proactive safety measurement system, and incorporates program monitoring to ensure ongoing effectiveness. It equips employees with the skills to influence the behaviour of others, measure the effects, and sustain improvements.
Alternative Workers’ Compensation Schemes
Stepping into the complex and strictly regulated environment of self-insurance may seem daunting, and it’s often difficult to know where to start. Marsh can help you determine if such an approach is right for your organisation and develop an appropriate alternative workers’ compensation scheme.
We can provide a comprehensive overview of the various options, predominantly focusing on assessing the financial feasibility of alternative workers’ compensation schemes within Australia, taking into account the various benefit structures and costs associated with transition and resourcing. This information is compiled into a comprehensive analysis of the overall cost of each scheme.
Our experienced team of WHS consultants are accredited lead auditors and can assess your company’s WHS management systems against the National WHS Self-Insurer Audit Tool (NAT) or other state-based self-insurer models. This process results in valuable feedback regarding eligibility for self-insurance and gives you the opportunity to eliminate any gaps prior to an application. This step is critical in ensuring a successful application and will help set up your organisation for continued improvement in performance.
Once we have determined your financial viability and assessed your eligibility from a WHS perspective, Marsh can present the findings and assist you to make a decision on which workers’ compensation scheme will be most beneficial to your organisation.
