When/how did you join Marsh?
I graduated from the University of Southern California in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in Economics. I started my career at Marsh in January of 2012.
Describe your time in the TRAC Program
During the TRAC program I completed a rotation in casualty placement and our Corporate segment. In the placement rotation, I was able to develop technical coverage and negotiation skills; while, also expanding my Los Angeles insurance network. During the Corporate rotation, I interfaced with clients on a day to day basis and acquired insight into how companies approach risk management. The Corporate rotation also exposed me to other lines of coverage such as property, financial products and aviation insurance which were not part of the deep casualty dive in placement. After the TRAC program, I accepted a job as an Associate Placement Specialist in the Casualty department.
The things I’ve enjoyed most about Marsh are my colleagues. Marsh is a very diverse and inclusive work place with some of the top talent in the industry. The expertise and willingness to help others makes Marsh a great place to learn and foster both technical and soft skills needed to develop into an elite insurance professional. Mentorship is emphasized at Marsh and my relationship with my mentor has been invaluable.
What does a typical day look like for you?
After the TRAC program, I accepted a job as an Associate Placement Specialist in the casualty department. I am now a Vice President Placement Specialist focusing on complex loss sensitive programs across various industries. A typical day includes negotiating with insurance carriers on behalf of our clients, completing financial and coverage comparisons for competing quotes and interpreting and presenting Marsh’s proprietary casualty analytics.
Do you have any advice for candidates or incoming TRAC associates?
My advice for students applying to the TRAC program is to truly understand Marsh and the role of an insurance broker in the value we provide to clients.
