Project Manager, Private Equity and Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) Services
I joined Marsh five years ago and have spent the past six months in the Sydney office.
I’m a project manager in the Private Equity and M&A Services practice of Marsh. I typically work on five to six projects at any one time and throughout the day I am in regular contact with the clients I am advising and the team I am project managing. While every day is different due to the nature of my work, the first task I do when I come into the office, is check my inbox to see if there is anything that urgently needs a response. I will then prioritise the tasks that need to be completed that day, leaving time to address anything that spontaneously is required for that day or any additional meetings I may need to attend.
What I enjoy most about working for Marsh is that as I’m able to work with the best talent in the industry and I have the opportunity to work on incredibly exciting projects for clients locally and globally.
The soft skills training that’s incorporated in the Graduate Development Programme was exceptionally useful and I have been able to use these skills in my day-to-day job. I particularly enjoyed and benefited from learning the best methods of communication and how to give an impactful presentation.
There have been so many opportunities and exciting projects that I’ve been involved with while at Marsh. I was part of the committee that organised Marsh’s first cross industry young professionals event. At this event, 60 young professionals were invited to an informal networking reception where senior Marsh leaders presented to the group and provided insightful career tips.
The most exciting opportunity that tops all of these has been the opportunity to relocate to Marsh’s office in Sydney. Marsh provided a great amount of support in the relocation and to date, it has been an extremely positive experience!
In terms of my next steps, I’d be keen to lead a team one day.
The best advice I’d give is to those applying to the Marsh Graduate Development Programme is to do as much research on Marsh as possible to really understand the insurance industry. In particular, I recommend speaking to any contacts that are already working in the industry to gain an insight – this could be through the university careers service or through friends and family.
