Replay: Responding to increasing cyber risks from COVID-19

May 01, 2020

As a result of COVID-19 there has been a shift for entire workforces to go from corporate facilities into virtual environments. While IT infrastructures may be stressed by a significant increase in demand, cyber threat actors are actively seeking to exploit weaknesses that may exist in your newly implemented or temporary IT infrastructure.  It’s important that employers are aware of the potential risks that their organisations are exposed to through employees working from home and what measures can be taken to reduce the risk of a potential cyber-attack.

In this 5th instalment of our special webinar series held on Friday 1st May, which is now available for replay, Ben Crowther, Head of Strategic Risk Services (NSW/QLD), along with Kelly Butler, Cyber Practice Leader, Pacific, reveal an approach to identify and quantify cyber risks to help mitigate your exposure to cyber events.

Key insights the team shared in this presentation include:

  • How the majority of employees are now working remotely and requiring access to enterprise applications, which is placing increased stress on an organisation’s IT infrastructure.
  • Cyber security practices for your employees to consider from their virtual environments. Some employees may be using their own personal devices and not the company issued devices, as well as relying on home routers/Wi-Fi systems that do not have advanced security capabilities.
  • Potential financial impacts and insurance considerations.
  • Threat volume and figures on detected malware related to COVID-19, as well as spam and malicious URL increases from February to March 2020.
