From 2010 to 2016, the retail sector was targeted in more than 3,000 lawsuits brought by patent trolls, also known as non-practicing entities (NPEs). These companies don’t actually produce or sell patent products, but make money by suing or threatening to sue retailers and others for alleged infringement of patents they’ve purchased.
