The 100 Largest Losses in the Hydrocarbon Industry

Marsh’s 24th edition of the 100 Largest Losses report explores the largest property losses in the hydrocarbon industry from 1974-2015 in an attempt to identify where the risks lie in the industry and what needs to be done to manage them safely.

Compiled from Marsh’s energy loss database, which holds almost 10,000 records of losses spanning more than 40 years, 100 Largest Losses covers the refinery, petrochemical, gas processing, terminals and distribution, and upstream sectors.

In addition to examining the 100 largest loss events, the report explores the following:

  • The impact of the price of oil on the industry.
  • Business interruption.
  • Predominant causes of severe losses.
  • Largest losses of the past two years.
